Somewhere Between is a documentary film about a group of Chinese-adoptees and their families as the adoptees grow up. Topics include race, identity, and family as the adoptees grow up not totally American but not totally Chinese.
This film is just okay overall. The film does a good job showing various adoptees. However, the film was created and directed by an adoptive mother. Therefore, there are underlying tones of white savior complex and a hiding of some negative aspects of adoption and being an adoptee. Rather, the film just focuses on the identity struggles and race struggles as an adoptee with society, but the film does not acknoledge struggles adoptees face with thier families and self.
